AMA Racing 2010 Pro/Am schedule showcases future pros vying for points, purse money

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- Many amateur motocross racers dream of racing in the Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Championship. One way to make that dream a reality is to hone your skills at AMA Racing Pro/Am events. It's at these venues where up-and-coming racers earn the points, purse money and contingency support to help them climb the competitive ladder.

"Our 2010 AMA Racing Pro/Am schedule features quality race tracks and events that are promoted by some of this country's top organizers," said AMA Director of Racing Joe Bromley. "With around 40 races on the calendar and at least $150,000 in guaranteed purse available to the fastest amateur American motocross racers on the planet, we're confident this schedule provides the challenges to prepare these young racers for the next level."

Bromley added that one factor in developing the current schedule was the increased minimum age requirements for a pro license.

"In 2010, the minimum age to acquire a professional license rises to 17, and in 2011, that will increase to 18," Bromley said. "What that also means is that many of today's top amateurs will spend more time in the Pro/Am ranks. That reality pushed us to create a schedule that best suits the up-and-coming A-class rider looking to build skill and confidence to race with the professional racers at the national level."

AMA Racing Pro/Am motocross events are open to both professionally licensed and A-class amateur motocross racers. The events allow amateurs to gain experience on America's top tracks and prepare for the fast pace and long motos that professional racing demands.

To be considered for a professional motocross license, competitors must have earned at least 75 advancement points (at the time of application) in AMA Racing Pro/Am motocross events in a continuous 12-month period. Points are based off overall finishes in either the 250 Pro/Am and Open Pro/Am classes. Points from each class will not be combined.

Motocross Rider Classifications

AMA Racing, the pro-am and amateur competition arm of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), has announced that amateur competitor classifications for motocross have been established for the upcoming 2009 season. Amateur competitors have been advanced from C to B classification and from B to A classification based on the rider advancement procedures outlined in the 2008 AMA Sports Rulebook.

In addition, amateur competitors interested in checking their classification can perform the following steps:

· Visit www.amaracing.com
· Select MX Results Center under Rules and Results
· Search by Last Name or AMA number in the Rider Search box for 2008 results
· The classification will be listed at the top of the individual rider page, along with the date that classification was last updated

Rider advancement procedures for motocross are spelled out in Chapter 3, Section R of the 2008 AMA Sports Rulebook Governing Pro-Am, Standard, ATV and Youth Competition. Riders are advanced based on the National Advancement System, according to their Rider Performance Value (RPV). Riders who are aware of specific errors in the results reported to AMA Racing, resulting in a mistake in their classification advancement, are encouraged to bring those specific errors to the attention of AMA Racing.
